The International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association (IBTTA) is honoring the organization’s commitment to roadway safety by hosting the second annual Global Road Safety Week.
From June 23–27, Global Road Safety Week highlights the tolling industry’s role in advancing roadway safety and saving lives. The week features the Be Safe Together: Be the Highway Hero campaign—an initiative designed to honor the individuals and innovations that make roadways safer every day. To spread the word, IBTTA launched a toolkit to help agencies spotlight local safety champions through daily themes, social content, graphics, and engagement ideas throughout the week.
AASHTO joined IBTTA as a “safety ally” in support of the week.
“AASHTO is honored to stand with IBTTA as a safety ally during Global Road Safety Week,” said AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon. “IBTTA is a critical partner in the industry as we march toward zero deaths on our nation’s roadways. Their efforts during Global Safety Week and beyond align with AASHTO’s commitment to centering safety on every state department of transportation action.”
This year, AASHTO President Garrett Eucalitto, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Transportation selected “Centering Safety” for communities, road users and workers as one of his core presidential emphasis areas, the ultimate goal of which is to embed safety into every stage of transportation decision-making. The endeavor prioritizes safety for all road users via strategic infrastructure, speed management, enforcement, education, technology, and data‑driven improvements.
