The Connecticut Department of Transportation will host AASHTO’s 2025 Spring Meeting, with experts from all over the country gathering for sessions that highlight topics that are top of mind for state departments of transportation and partner agencies.
Those four knowledge sessions are:
- Harnessing Public-Private Partnerships (P3s) to Solve the Toughest Project Puzzles. Sponsored by HNTB, this session highlights how P3s can offer advantages such as risk optimization and access to private capital for transportation complex projects. As the Trump administration is prioritizing greater private sector involvement in public infrastructure, this session will discuss successes and lessons learned from longstanding federal financing programs.
- Centering Safety on Promising Strategies for Supporting Safe Road User Decisions. Sponsored by Amazon, this session will present promising and innovative approaches to supporting safe road user decisions with technology, data, and innovation. The session’s panel of speakers will discuss recent successes, transferability to other jurisdictions or sectors of the transportation industry, and the potential for making a significant impact on crash trends.
- Performance Management to Inform Reauthorization Policies and Outcomes. Sponsored by McKinsey, this session explores how performance management practices can inform and shape upcoming federal reauthorization policies. A panel of transportation leaders at this session will examine the balance between accountability through national performance measures and preserving state flexibility in investment decisions. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how emerging metrics can enrich state DOT performance management while continuing progress towards national transportation goals.
- Alternative Delivery Methods to Reduce Costs and Accelerate Project Implementation. Sponsored by HDR, this session helps provide a “foundational understanding” of alternative delivery methods in engineering, including key types, benefits, and risks. The session will also examine how to assess project suitability for alternative delivery and understand risk-sharing strategies to enhance project success.
The 2025 Spring Meeting will also serve as a venue for AASHTO committees and councils to gather and address critical mobility topics affecting surface transportation, aviation, and maritime, among other modes.
It will also host the 2025 AASHTO Bridge Challenge event; a national contest designed to promote an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math or STEM disciplines among middle and high school students.
