The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the National Steel Bridge Alliance have jointly issued “Hot-Dip Galvanizing Specification, 1st Edition, S8.3—2022” for steel bridges and other highway structures

AASHTO said this new specification guide offers “best practice” details for owners, designers, and fabricators related to hot-dip galvanizing steel structures – a process that provides a durable protection from corrosion.
The guide also includes best practices for design and fabrication, as well as information on material properties of hot-dip galvanizing, types of materials suitable for hot-dip galvanizing, welding considerations and procedures, venting and draining, and distortion control.
This new specification guide also presents information related to other zinc coating processes, including mechanical galvanizing, electroplating, and metalizing.
