The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council or TC3 is offering two new online training programs for free through December of this year.

The first is the group’s “Construction Inspection of Structures” series provides the fundamental techniques for state DOT personnel responsible for inspecting foundations, substructures, and superstructures, as well as developing rehabilitation programs for them as well.

The series consists of four separate, stand-alone courses that provide introductory information on foundations (below the ground), substructures (below the bearings), superstructures (above the substructure), and rehabilitation (repair of structures) – thoroughly covering the techniques needed to properly perform all of those tasks, AASHTO said.

TC3 also recently launched its nine-module “Pavement Markings” online training course, which, like the Construction series, is available via the AASHTO Store. It, too, is being offered for free to state DOT technicians, inspectors, supervisors, engineers, and/or private contractors, and it covers the various types of pavement markings, including retro-reflective beads, tape, paint, thermoplastic, resins, and markers.

AASHTO added that its Pavement Marking course not only covers the details of the materials and their application, but also the “blocking and tackling” fundamentals of line markings and pavement marking project considerations.

AASHTO noted more than 90 percent of the TC3 curriculum is eligible for professional development hours or PDHs, meaning that when a trainee takes a PDH-eligible course, those hours can contribute toward continuing education for license renewal.
