To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Connecticut Department of Transportation partnered with bus operators to distribute masks to riders at 17 transit district facilities around Connecticut on July 28.

The masks – supplied to CTtransit and other transit bus operators – were distributed in light of Executive Order No. 7BB, issued by Governor Lamont on April 20. Since then, the Connecticut DOT said compliance with the mask order on buses has been exceptional and the spread of the virus greatly reduced.
“The distribution of masks at this time is being done to reduce complacency in light of our achievements as a state,” noted Richard Andreski, Connecticut DOT’s public transportation bureau chief, in a statement.
“We have seen that most riders are continuing to use masks, but with the warm summer weather there is concern that people are beginning to not be as vigilant,” he added.
“Now is not the time to take our foot off the gas. As we’ve seen in other communities throughout the country, this virus is still with us and we need to heed the order to wear masks on all public transportation,” Andreski said. “We hope the distribution of masks will help reinforce our rider’s commitment to reducing the spread of the virus.”
The Centers for Disease Control affirmed on July 14 that cloth face coverings are a “critical tool” in the fight against COVID-19, helping reduce the spread of the disease.
“We are not defenseless against COVID-19,” said Dr. Robert Redfield, CDC director, in a statement. “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.”
