Those projects, located across 16 counties, enhance the state’s rail network by promoting economic efficiency, supporting sustainability, and addressing critical infrastructure needs, the agency said.

The $13 million award represents the program’s $10 million annual funding combined with $3 million in carryover funds and loan payments from past projects, Kansas DOT added.

“These projects reflect the diverse needs faced by our Kansas communities and rail operators,” noted Governor Laura Kelly (D) in a statement.

“By bolstering the state’s rail network, we will promote economic opportunity throughout Kansas,” she said.

The agency added that its rail program requires a 30 percent match from each recipient, meaning that the overall amount of investment those 14 projects will total more than $18 million.

“Implementing these improvements will inevitably foster long-term growth,” explained Kansas DOT Secretary Calvin Reed. “We’re proud to be able to provide additional funding this round, strengthening connectivity and supporting communities that rely on having access to an efficient and reliable rail network.”
