In the video, Wiley discusses his agency’s recent efforts to improve safety as well as to honor the department’s workforce. He highlights the passage of three new safety laws, the continued success of ARDOT’s “Slow Down, Phone Down” campaign with a 40 percent crash reduction, and the launch of a new school program called “Street Smart” to teach safe driving habits.
Wiley also expressed in the video his hopes for greater flexibility in upcoming federal reauthorization efforts.
Wiley – who previously served as ARDOT’S chief engineer for preconstruction for nearly two years before officially being named director in January – began his career with the agency as an engineering student intern in Hot Springs prior to being hired in December 2005 as a civil engineer in ARDOT’s Planning and Research Division.
He subsequently served as a consultant coordinator in the deputy director and chief engineer’s office, assistant division head of the Transportation Planning and Policy Division, division head of Program Management, and assistant chief engineer for planning before moving into his current position.
